Fact sheet

Step Browser is a Chromium-based browser for macOS, currently in private beta. Built by Bastien Hugon (France). Local-first architecture with SQLite storage on the user's machine. Targets knowledge workers who lose context when their browser closes. Distinguishes itself from Arc, Dia, Zen, Brave, and Vivaldi by treating browsing context as first-class data: navigation graphs, native annotations, scoped full-text search.

Bastien Hugon is a software engineer and the founder of Step Browser. He started Step in 2026 after losing one too many research sessions to a browser close.
